MEET ASHLEY
With over 23 years of experience in winemaking, Ashley brings extensive knowledge and passion to help others improve their craft. She has served as Winemaker at Joseph Phelps Vineyards for 15 years, overseeing the production of the vineyard’s award-winning Napa Valley wines, including its flagship wine Insignia, Single-Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Backus, as well as its Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, and Delice. Prior to taking on the role of Winemaker, Ashley served in increasingly responsible roles at the vineyard, starting as a Harvest Intern in 1999 before moving on to more technical roles as Lab Technician, Enologist and Associate Winemaker. Ashley's approach to winemaking is simple yet effective.
Ashley honed her palate early in her career working in restaurant kitchens, including the famed Charlie Trotter’s in Chicago. She is also proud to have worked the 2005 harvest at Chateau Angelus (a Premier Grand Cru Classé A - Saint-Emilion). Since taking on her first role as a harvest intern in the industry, she has maintained a sense of curiosity and hunger to learn.
Growing up in Colorado, Ashley is an avid skier and loves hiking and mountain biking. She has summited many of the state’s 14ers. She also completed Outward Bound courses, including one in Africa, and summited Mt. Kilimanjaro. But her greatest adventure to date is raising two kiddos and plotting adventures with her husband, Greg.
